The Cornell Equine Seminar Series is presented by the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine’s Equine Hospital, the New York State 4-H Horse Program and Cornell Cooperative Extension. Held on the second Tuesday of most months, equine experts present on important equine health and management topics. The event is free and open to the public.

A horse is a horse… or is it? We know that humans and animals experience the world differently, but it’s challenging to gauge the extent of these differences or apply this understanding to how we treat animals in our care. In this webcast, Cornell University veterinarian and equine welfare specialist Lindsay Goodale will take you into the mind — and body — of a horse to explore the interrelationship among animal cognition, biology, and welfare. Using horses as a case study, Dr. Goodale will explain how the study of animals’ perceptive and cognitive abilities, along with their biology, enable us to better understand how they experience their world — providing vital knowledge for improving animal welfare.
