July 30, 2019 - Califonai - CLM DWN Gives Equestrians a Natural Way to Provide Calming and Recovery Support to their Horses
Jen Azevedo is a true hippophile. Since age eight, she has spent more time in the saddle and at the stable than almost anywhere else. She’s a horse owner and equestrian whose career in marketing has spanned various equine sporting businesses. This past spring however, she took that passion next level with the founding of CLM DWN – a line of topical calming and recovery solutions and gels for horses’ skin, joints, muscles and minds.

Azevedo developed the transdermal supplements in collaboration with a biochemist and homeopath with inspiration from eastern and western practices. The products include a Transdermal Calming Solution and a Transdermal Recovery Gel: each of which is also available with added glucosamine – a natural compound found in cartilage, the tough tissue that cushions joints.

CLM DWN is the result of extensive research into the added benefits and improved effectiveness of commonly used supplements when applied transdermally versus orally,” explained Azevedo. She referred to statistics that show that MSM – which improves joint mobility - has an absorption rate of up to 34 percent orally versus 88 percent transdermally; while glucosamine has an absorption rate of six percent orally versus 61 percent transdermally.

“It was equally important to us to use only the very highest quality ingredients and to be completely transparent in listing those. It is essential for the show ring and other equine sports where testing is done, not to mention for those of us who want to know exactly what we are using on our beloved animals,” she added.

Clients have reported positive results across a variety of usages. Cara Choy, an equine sports massage therapist, uses CLM DWN as part of her body work to help horses relax and soften their muscles for a deeper massage. Another CLM DWN client used the recovery gel with glucosamine for swelling on her horse’s lower front leg. She reported that the inflammation was significantly down without the need for wraps and the horse was moving comfortably the very next day. Additionally, the calming solutions have been used as a training tool by other customers as it helps horses stay more focused. Azevedo, herself, has used the calming solution to support a positive trailering experience for her mare who previously was stressed in the confined area and would not eat. The horse now eats during transport.

All CLM DWN product ingredients are certified organic and are free of parabens, fragrance, petrochemicals, glycols and phenoxyethanol. Prices range from $29.99 to $49.99 and are available at clmdwn.horse/shop.
