Cornell’s Equine Seminar Series presents “What’s Bugging Our Horses? A Review of Insect-borne Diseases in the Northeast”

WHAT: Toby L. Pinn-Woodcock, DVM, DACVIM, will teach attendees about how to recognize the clinical signs of common insect-borne diseases seen in horses in the Northeastern United States, along with how each disease is diagnosed, treated and prevented.

ITHACA, N.Y. – Horses residing in New York state are susceptible to a variety of diseases spread by insects, including mosquitos, ticks and flies. Rapid diagnosis and treatment of these diseases are key to the welfare of our horses. This presentation will focus on teaching horse owners to recognize the clinical signs of common insect-borne diseases seen in the Northeastern United States, along with how each disease is diagnosed, treated and prevented. Lyme disease, Potomac Horse Fever, Anaplasmosis, West Nile Virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis will be among the diseases reviewed by Dr. Toby Pinn-Woodcock, a board-certified Large Animal Internal Medicine specialist and assistant clinical professor of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.
