7 years 6 months ago #903 by Kate
The Breeders' Cup announced today the introduction of the Breeders' Edition of the Breeders' Cup World Championship Trophy, which will be awarded to the breeder of the winner of each of the 2016 World Championship races.

Three Chimneys Farm will be the presenting sponsor of the Breeders Edition trophy.

The Breeders' Cup World Championships, Thoroughbred racing's most prestigious international two-day event, featuring 13 grade I races with purses and awards totaling $28 million, will be held Friday, Nov. 4 and Saturday, Nov. 5 at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif.

"We are delighted that Three Chimneys Farm, which has established a remarkable record of leadership and success in the Thoroughbred bloodstock community, has made a firm commitment to sponsor the first Breeders Edition of the Breeders' Cup Trophy," said Breeders' Cup president Craig Fravel. "The breeders have been the foundation for the Breeders' Cup program since before our inception, and this new trophy is a fitting tribute to their vital contributions and sustenance to our Championships and to our industry."

"Three Chimneys is proud to be the inaugural sponsor of the Breeders' Edition of the 2016 Breeders' Cup World Championship Trophy. In my native Brazil, on our Championship Day of racing, the Breeder as well as the Owner is awarded a trophy," said Three Chimneys owner Gonçalo Torrealba. "We find it only fitting that the lifeblood of our industry, the breeder, be recognized in such a significant manner. When the opportunity presented itself, it made the world of sense for Three Chimneys to be the sponsor of this prestigious award. We laud the Breeders' Cup for such forward thinking,"

A presentation ceremony for each of the 13 Breeders Edition Trophy winners will be held at Champion's Terrace at Santa Anita following the Winner's Circle presentation for the owners.
