The Vice President of Sales is responsible for developing, executing, and continuously improving SmartPak’s direct sales channel, focused primarily on equine boarding barns/stables. The VP of Sales will partner with SmartPak’s CEO, Chief Marketing Officer, and head of Customer Care to lead the sales organization to continue double-digit growth. In addition, the VP of Sales will be responsible for the strategic and tactical direction of the 40-person organization including the recruitment, training, development of its people, the utilization of technology to drive demand and service delivery in a performance driven culture.

The Nitty Gritty:

Results driven individual as an individual and team leader.
Be responsible for the overall strategic direction and tactical execution of the direct sales channel, including a national field sales organization, inside sales and a client service team based in Plymouth, MA.
Develop a systematic approach to recruiting high performance sales people
Implement training programs that build value-based selling skills and working with the internal equine health team to develop an integrated curriculum of sales and health knowledge to the sales organization.
Lead in field training and management programs for the regional and geographic field representatives and continue to develop sales skills, drive performance, refine sales tactics, and share best practices.
Utilize and upgrade, as needed the CRM/campaign management tool to drive optimal activities and performance.
Lead quarterly sales meetings and weekly conference calls to share best practices and connect the field sales organization to the rest of the Company
Refine and manage the sales compensation system to reward behaviors that align with activities and goals of the Company
Set annual quotas and organization objectives based on the business objectives and financial requirements of the company.
Develop and manage current sales leaders in working with their respective teams to drive each salesperson’s strategic/tactical/planning activities in their territories.
Create opportunities for personal, professional development and advancement for each sales person and manager.
Develop annual sales department budget and manage the business to react to opportunities and challenges; prepare, measure, and monitor annual sales projections.
Establish and maintain a personal presence in the field.
Build team identity, culture and camaraderie.
Drive a high level of excellence and ethics is beyond reproach.
Position Must Have’s:

Bachelor’s Degree required. MBA or Master’s in related field preferred.
10 or more years of experience in sales and sales management. Must have demonstrated a strong track record of personal sales leadership/results as well as a demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and motivate sales professionals/get results through others.
Skills: Strong analytical, organizational, communication, presenting, coaching, budgeting skills; a decisive individual who possesses a “big picture” perspective; demonstrated ability to anticipate and solve practical problems and resolve issues.
Proven track record of making good decisions using analytics and wisdom.
A self-directed team player with track record of developing strong relationships with executives from other functions (marketing, customer care) and customers.
Successful experience implementing and utilizing sales force automation and sales systems. Proficiency with the Microsoft Suite of Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, One Note and Outlook).
Location/Relocation:

Relocation to Plymouth is not required for this position, but must be willing to travel 50% of time.
