Course Structure
The NEW Monty Roberts Intermediate Course of Horsemanship is a comprehensive program consisting of 8 modules.
This page is for students who wish to enroll in Individual Module 2: Fine Tune Long Lining: Practice long-lining with feel, focus, and clear intent. Building on trust and understanding, this module develops your skills to use long-lining for balance, fitness, and muscle development. Body language, timing, and energy flow become refined tools in your training, without force.
The single-module option is ideal for those who cannot commit to a full course block. It provides the same high-quality instruction as the full course, allowing you to progress at your own pace.
To qualify as a Monty Roberts Certified Instructor, students must complete Modules 1–5 (mandatory) and earn the required points to advance. Modules 6-8 are elective modules that allow you to specialize and expand your skills.
The full Intermediate Course includes the following modules:
Module 1: Intention & Body Language (2 Days · 200 Points) The horse reads your body language long before you speak. This module builds on the knowledge gained in your Join-Up™ (Introductory Module) and teaches you to translate inner clarity into outer presence. Learn how posture, breath, and mental focus directly influence the horse and the connection between you.
Module 2: Fine-Tuning Long Lining (3 Days · 300 Points) Practice long-lining with feel, focus, and clear intent. Building on trust and understanding, this module develops your skills to use long-lining for balance, fitness, and muscle development. Body language, timing, and energy flow become refined tools in your training, without force.
Module 3: Tricks and Training (3 Days · 300 Points) Tricks become bridges to trust. In a playful setting, horses learn to explore new tasks voluntarily. This module covers learning theory, timing, feel, and soft communication to spark joy in training—always with respect and partnership. Monty’s Dually Halter and the language of Equus remain the foundation of all exercises.
Module 4: Trailer Loading II (3 Days · 300 Points) Trailer loading starts not at the ramp, but in the relationship. This module deepens voluntary loading through trust, respectful leadership, correct use of the Dually Halter, and incremental training steps. The goal: a confident horse that loads easily and willingly.
Module 5: Problem Solving (5 Days · 500 Points) Every behavior tells a story. This module teaches you to understand rather than correct. You’ll develop trust-based solutions rooted in Monty’s principles of nonviolence, deep observation, and incremental steps—for real transformation, not symptom suppression.
Module 6: Confident Horse & Human (3 Days · 150 Points) Confidence grows from safety, not control. This module empowers both horse and human through calm presence, clear leadership, and consistency. Learn how to read equine body language, respond with emotional stability, and become a reliable partner your horse can trust.
Module 7: Youngster School (4 Days · 200 Points) First steps shape a lifetime. This module guides young horses through respectful early education—from leading to environmental exposure—using Join-Up™, the Dually Halter, and nonverbal communication. Ideal for students with young horses who want to build a lasting partnership.
Module 8: Riding in Harmony (3 Days · 300 Points) Riding in harmony begins on the ground. This module blends seat, breath, energy, and equine understanding into a fluid dialogue. It focuses on mental and physical balance, creating a soft, connected riding style based on partnership rather than control.
For students working toward instructor certification, the course block format—which combines multiple modules into a single block—is recommended, as it enables faster completion of all eight modules. These block courses are offered as Intermediate Course A, B, and C.
To qualify as a Monty Roberts Certified Instructor, students must complete the mandatory courses and accumulate sufficient points to progress.
