The Smokey Valley Horse is a recreation of America's historic smooth gaited traveling horse. They are capable of maintaining their gait through a wide range of speed and for long distances. This smooth and comfortable ride gives the feel of a "magic carpet ride" effect.
In 1979 Dr. Bob Coleman set out on a path to recreated the traveling horse from his past. For the Coleman family, gaited traveling horses have been a passion and a way of life for generations. After almost 40 years of breeding horses in Smokey Valley Farm in Kentucky, the breed made its National Debut at the 2018 Equine Affaire in Columbus Ohio.
They range in height from 14.2.-16.2 and weigh between 1,000 and 1,200 lbs. There are no specific color requirements for the breed and the come in a wide range of colors and patterns. Sometimes called Ferrari's you put saddles on, these athletes excel as an all around gaited horse.
