Joining the Program

*Please note Carriage driving is currently in remission until a new coach is trained

Our programs are varied – from work in the arena learning control, commands to the horse, listening skills.  We play games involving stopping, starting, stretching – we work on core strength where needed.  We also have an activity course and do trail rides within our grounds – completing our tasks in a calm, enjoyable environment.  We have fun!

We also offer Carriage driving for participants who are unable to ride and also cater for wheelchair clients.  The participants learn listening skills and have a variety of activities to keep them interested and learn over time to take control of the reins, under the guidance of our experienced coaches.

We cater for all age groups.

  • Lesson Fees: $10 per session
  • Length of lessons: 25 minutes
  • We operate from 8.30 – 1pm (lessons start at 9.30, until 12.15)
  • Weight restrictions: up to 80 kg
  • There is now a wait list, please email rdabendigo@gmail.com for more information.

Volunteering

Bendigo trains all new volunteers to RDA standard, in tasks that require setting up for the day’s activities, horse care and safety, leading and side walking.  We prefer volunteers to commit to attending every ride or carriage day – as this allows forward planning to accept new clients.

All our volunteers are expected to attend our annual Training Day – held the first Wednesday of February. There is ongoing training throughout the year.

New Volunteers work in a buddy system with an experienced volunteer, getting to know the centre, how it runs and understanding our client’s needs. There is a debrief at the end of each day, to discuss any problems that may arise.
