Housed on 180 acres of prime Kentucky grazing, War Horse Place offers first-class personalized management for every stage of your Thoroughbred's life

Our facilities include well ventilated barns and sizable stalls overseen by our resident management team. We have mixture of small turn out, perfect for newborns and yearling colts in sales preparation, as well as large paddocks of up to 20 acres for building strong muscle and bone in your future athlete. All are bordered by v-mesh fencing, one of the safest options for enclosures.

We have a keen focus on the details; a feed program specific to your Thoroughbred's needs, height and weight charting, veterinary led parasite management, conformation analysis and correction. We are in the immediate vicinity of some of the best equine medical care in the world and we have long standing relationships with specialists in reproduction, lameness, optometry, surgery and internal medicine.

“ When we began our search for a farm to board our first broodmare, we had certain criteria in mind. After our first visit to War Horse Place, we realized we had found the farm that exceeded our expectations; a top rate facility, access to world class veterinarian services, and a knowledgeable staff that makes the first time breeder feel as important as the established client. These are just a few of the reasons we chose War Horse Place. They are more than caretakers of our horses, they are like family.”

Founded in 2004, War Horse Place is a full-service boutique Thoroughbred operation in the heart of Kentucky's Bluegrass region

Housed on 180 acres of prime Kentucky grazing War Horse Place was founded by entrepreneur Gerry Aschinger & pilot Dana Aschinger. With a shared passion for horses and Kentucky, they launched a farm built on the principle of offering the highest standards in equine care in a boutique setting. The farm offers services for all stages of your Thoroughbred's life; broodmare and foal care, sales preparation and consignment, lay-ups and post surgical management. Our excellent facilities include large, well ventilated stalls, a mixture of small turn out and large paddocks enclosed with v-mesh fencing, and monitored 24-hours a day by our on-site staff.

“It is my privilege to have been associated with the folks at War Horse Place Farm the past eight years. They have a state-of-the-art farm that is well maintained with a top caliber management team. I have found the staff to be very helpful in all respects.

I am so thankful to the team at War Horse Place. In my opinion, anyone that is looking for a great home for their horses would be well served to partner up with War Horse Place and their knowledgeable and professional staff. Thank you War Horse Place Farm!”

Behind every strong organization is an inspirational force who has the ability to lead people with their clear vision and deep commitment.  For War Horse Place, it was our co-founder Gerry Aschinger.  All who knew Gerry, knew a man that had a kind spirit yet a warrior’s heart. Gerry never saw an obstacle that was too big.  He carried his “can do” attitude with him, both, as an entrepreneur and a horseman.

As an entrepreneur, he started and ran many successful businesses throughout his life.  He was a consummate horseman and together with his wife, Dana, developed War Horse Place Farm in 2002.  After breeding the multi-million dollar stakes winning horse, Prayer for Relief, he attained his trainers license and trained for 8 years producing Stakes winners Dramedy and Lots O’ Lex.

As a horseman, Gerry was an avid polo player and a member of the United States Polo Association (USPA) for 32 years.  He played in Dayton OH, Scottsdale AZ, and Sarasota FL and was an active member of the polo clubs.

He combined his love for business and horses when he was elected to Governor At Large within the USPA and later became Governor of Club Membership and Development.  In that role, he started the Polo Plus program that is still active today and enables members to receive discounts on many products used by the membership.  In 2008, he was asked to be a board member of Global Licensing…the group responsible for running the USPA clothing industry across the world.  He became the acting Chairman of that board and held that position until 2018.

Although we miss his incredible strength and presence, his spirit is still alive in our farm family today.  Leaving a legacy is not about leaving something FOR people but rather leaving something IN people.  Gerry’s legacy will forever be the cornerstone of War Horse Place Farm.
