THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING OUR MISSION TO RESCUE, REHABILITATE, RETRAIN, REHOME

AND ASSIST WITH THE RETIREMENT OF THOROUGHBREDS!

Welcome

Thank you for visiting the website of the Thoroughbred Retirement Network of Louisiana (TRNL), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization established to rescue, rehabilitate, retrain, rehome, and assist with the retirement of ex-racehorses.  Although the horse industry in Louisiana has certainly seen better days, Thoroughbred racing continues to remain popular and highly competitive across the state.  Louisiana is the home to 4 major race tracks:

  • Fairgrounds (New Orleans)

  • Evangeline Downs (Lafayette)

  • Delta Downs (Vinton - by Lake Charles)

  • Louisiana Downs (Bossier City)

Few states can boast that they offer racing enthusiasts such variety as well as the attraction of practically year-round events. To sportsfolk, racing is exciting, fun, and sometimes lucrative.  There are few experiences that can equal the thrill of watching your favorite equine stretch across the finish-line ahead of the field. This is largely what the public sees and hears about. There is so much more.

Seldom does the public read headlines about the exploitation of the Thoroughbred breed. Seldom are stories shared in mainstream publications about the huge population of unwanted ex-racers and the Thoroughbreds who have been subjected to unheard of abuses.  The mainstream public is rarely informed about the Thoroughbreds that are auctioned-off to "meat men" and then sent to slaughter in Mexico and Canada to be processed for human consumption in foreign countries.

Please join us in our efforts to offer these magnificent animals a new lease on life!
