NEW PROJECT!
"I'm really excited to share my newest project with you,
California Chrome..." - Elaine

Elaine Macpherson has had a wide ranging career, from graphic design and the fine arts to race horse breeding.

A common theme among them all is her passion for animals great and small. Her work, either in breeding or the arts, reflects that.

This site was built to reflect the many sides of Elaine’s work, both past and present.

Have a look around and enjoy the works by an artist who truly loves what she does. Whether she’s in the stable, or in the studio.

A Letter from Elaine

Well, here I am at last! For those of you who know my work, you can now find me here at ElaineMacpherson.com.

Have a look at my website and enjoy. If you have a project you might think I would be right for, don’t hesitate to drop me a line. And if you see something you would like to order, feel free to contact me for that as well. Thank you,
and looking forward to hearing from you.

For those of you who are new to my work, here’s a little background information on me and my career.

Graphic Design Career
Almost immediately I was launched into several graphic design
endeavors that included a number of ‘horsey’ clients.
I worked
on illustration, layout and design for The Ontario Jockey Club,
Barrington’s Horse Store, Tack ‘N’ Togs (a division of Thrifty’s),
The Corinthian Magazine to name a few. It wasn’t long before
my client list included Dogs of Canada, Harrowsmith Magazine, Owl
and Chickadee Magazines, and McGraw-Hill for whom I did all the
creative on the Unicorn Language and Reading series. From 1972
to 1988 I illustrated countless books, advertisements and posters
from Levi Strauss jean labels to animated title credits for the award
winning short films, ‘Thoroughbred’ and ‘With Flying Colours.’

Fine Arts Career
By this time I felt that I had done everything I had hoped to do in my
capacity as a graphic designer and it was time to move on,
and in 1989 I relocated to Alberta, Canada and realized a life-long
dream, as part owner in a racehorse farm. I started breeding
racehorses and had success with my firstborn foal, a colt known
as ‘Timely Ruckus.’
He had an illustrious career as one of Alberta’s
all-time best sprinters and although I had sold him as a yearling,
he gave me all the thrillsand satisfaction a small-time horse breeder
could ever have imagined. I left the horse business to concentrate
on my art again, this time going with fine art as my focus.

And now in this new and exciting century it’s back to my
sculpting clay, my watercolour brushes, my pastels and my
acrylic paints.
I can look out the window at the Rocky Mountains
for inspiration any time I like.
