The clinic treats horses, cattle, sheep, goats and other large animals suffering from internal organ, obstetric and gynaecological diseases, performs surgical, obstetric and orthopaedic surgeries using inhaled and intravenous anaesthesia. Diagnostic laboratory tests are performed to facilitate the diagnosis of various animal diseases using the latest diagnostic equipment.

Services are provided at set rates:

Consultation by a veterinarian at the clinic costs from 10 Euro, during outpatient visitation from 35 Euro.
Endoscopy – performed with a mobile video endoscope, during the examination it is possible to inspect the airways, parts of the digestive system (bronchoscopy, gastroscopy, laryngoscopy) cost 30-70 Euro.
Castration of a stallion – 120-300 Euro.
Tumour surgery – from 40 Euro.
Teeth straightening, removal – from 15 Euro, dental treatment with HDE power tools from 22 Euro.
Transportation of an animal (patient) by clinic’s transport – 0,70 Euro / km.
Doctor’s arrival –0,25 Euro / km.
Care of the animal treated at the inpatient clinic (cleaning of the pen, bedding, feeding the horse, walks) – from 9 Euro / day.

The Veterinary Outpatient Ward was established within the Large Animal Clinic in 2002 in cooperation with the University of Veterinary Medicine Hanover (Germany) and private veterinarian Dr. C. Dupree (Honorary Doctor at the Lithuanian Veterinary Academy since 2008).

The outpatient ward has modern diagnostic equipment suitable for on-site applications, such as livestock farms or stud farms:

Mobile digital X-ray machine
Flexible endoscope
Ultrasound scanner
Modern equine dental equipment
Mobile blood test equipment

Early pregnancy diagnosis by ultrasound;
Endoscopic lung and stomach examination;
X-ray imaging;
Blood tests.

ANIMAL REPRODUCTION LABORATORY

In 1991, the Laboratory for the Research of Animal Reproductive Traits was established at the Lithuanian Veterinary Academy under the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and in 1998, the Embryo Transfer Laboratory was added as a training and production laboratory.

On 1 September 2016, the laboratory was renamed to the Animal Reproduction Laboratory, and became part of the Large Animal Clinic under the Veterinary Academy of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences. Since its establishment, the Laboratory was headed by Prof. Habil. Dr. Henrikas Žilinskas until 2021.

At present, the Animal Reproduction Laboratory is headed by Dr. Neringa Sutkevičienė.

Biochemical blood and urine tests (metabolic status determination):

Zinc, phosphorus, iron, glucose, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium, copper;
Albumin, total protein, urea;
ALP, ALT, AST, bilirubin, GGT;
HDL cholesterol, triglycerides;
Creatinine.

Semen quality tests:

Sperm concentration;
Morphological sperm abnormalities;
Sperm motility and viability;
Extraneous cells in semen (WBC, RBC, etc.).

Reproductive hormone assays ELISA:

Progesterone, oestrogen, cortisol, etc. (other hormones are possible)

Investigation of morphological and functional characteristics of the reproductive organs and ovaries of calving cows;
Use of biologically active substances to optimise and regulate female reproductive performance;
Functions and role of the porcine endometrium for fertility;
Sperm viability studies in boars and bulls;
Studies on the influence of semen diluents and semen storage time on semen quality and fertilisation of sows;
Parameters of reproductive performance and regulation of the reproductive cycle in heifers of beef breeds and cows.

Andrological examination of males;
Examination of the female reproductive system;
Ultrasound examination;
Educational activities (for students, breeding technicians, continuous development courses (CPD), seminars).
